Revtech 100" Engine Vs S&S 100"

<Home>

  I saw one of these all shiny in it's box on display at a show in San Jose USA and fell in love with it.
3 years later and a dead 1340 motor so I bought one, and this is the story:
After it arrived missing all the run sheets that it should have come with (these motors are factory run and shipped with the results) it was fitted by my local CCI dealer and away I went with big smile.
After 150miles I noticed oil coming out of the front exhaust port dripping down and making a big mess of my nice new silver motor so CCI sent out another engine, a black one, and off I went and again after about 100 miles it was dripping oil out of the front exhaust port all over the engine, so back to the dealer I go and I am really pissed off by now. CCI gave the OK for my dealer to strip the top end and replace the split valve seals.
So now it is Ok and took me and my lady from London to Malaga and back with no problems, apart from one of the de-compressor plastic ends failing off leaving a sharp nail type point for me to press.

Once back from Spain I decided it had done enough mileage to be able to put it on a Dyno and see what figures this big motor is doing.

The top chart lines are the Revtech engine, the lower are a tuned 1340 Evo engine for comparison

Based on these figures I came to the conclusion that they were in fact crap, so a few calls were made to Revtech in Germany (one bloke - not much use) and Revtech in USA (two blokes I think!) and  they did admit these figures were poor and they should be nearer 100 HP but couldn't not explain why they were so bad, so I started a thread on BikersHeaven.com and got loads of replies all saying that they or someone they knew had the same problem i.e. crap HP, one guy did say he got 100 HP but had to replace most parts (Barrels, rods, heads) with S&S components.
I also called a well established Harley Performance company here in England and was told that they will not sell Revtech engines due to the poor quality builds.
I decided I wanted rid of this engine so called CCI Europe and suggested that they take this engine back and send me an S&S 100" and I would pay the difference, and to my surprise they said "Ok no problem" nice one!

So to cut a long story short-ish, I got my S&S 100" 4" stroke, 4" bore motor and it is great, I have Dyno'd it and was very pleased with the results of 98.2HP and 93 Torque at the wheel, so close to the big 100 HP but close enough to get there without to much hassle, maybe a good set of leads, plugs and decent petrol will get it there. See Dyno sheets above right

Later this year I will take it back to the Dyno so I can tune to Supertrapp exhaust and S&S Super carb.

Next winter I plan on flowing the heads as that can give 10HP est or maybe more :o)

01-05-07 Update:
Despite numerous emails to S&S Tech Support and asking for a reply they have not replied to a single one so while I rate thier engines thier support is very very poor - well it just 'isn't' support.
